Black History Month
Purpose of Black History Month
To allow everyone to participate in what is a valuable source of British pride, irrespective of ethnicity; the many important and positive contributions made over the years by the Black and Minority Ethnic community to the rich fabric of British society. These contributions are many, from medicine to sport, to journalism, to government.
In order to understand our present, we must be able to appreciate and share our past and to understand and remember that we have more in common than that which divides us, and our capacity to accept and pay tribute to the wealth of cultures which have come to make up what it is to be British.
