How does Success in Maths fulfill the Numeracy strategy?
Emphasis on mental calculation
Success in Maths provides:
o Lesson starters
o Aural and mental tests with mark schemes based around number skills
o Activities which help pupils develop strategies for mental calculation
o Exercises to develop skills in estimation and rounding

Three-part lesson
o

 Lesson plans - each lesson has a detailed walk-through for a three-part lesson.
o

 Lessons starters - a bank of lesson starters and warm up exercises in the Teacher's Handbooks.
o

 The main teaching activity - the lesson plans incorporate teacher-led work, as well as group work, pair work and individual study.
o

 Plenary session - each lesson plan includes Finishing Off - a short summary of the main learning points.

Regular Homework
o

 Two Homework Files per year -- one for lower ability and one for middle to higher ability.
o
 Each topic has a photocopiable, stand alone, homework sheet.
